Develop the Occurrence — installation view

Context

Through the works of three artists, this exhibition refocuses on the traces of detail that constitute reality. In semiotics, such marks are known as “Indexical Traces”—they point directly to the moment of action: just as smoke is the product of fire, a fingerprint is the sign left by a touch. By circulating through these details, the exhibition seeks to shape another possibility of a “truthful” narrative.

This exhibition re-imagines the gallery space as a “darkroom of perception.” The exhibition hall is no longer a simple physical path, but a process of development.

Focusing on the material textures of the works, the exhibition uncovers details often eclipsed by daily life: they are the resistant brushstrokes behind Yujin’s satellite images, the physiological tremors of Xuran’s body before ‘anxiety’ is named, and the forgotten material friction beneath the urban order sought by Hyunju.

By centering on the physical traces that exist before an image is formed, viewers may realise that the everyday objects we take for granted are, in fact, filled with undetected evidence. These details, serving as indexical traces, construct a new reality—a narrative possibility centred on “occurrence” rather than “result.”

We invite everyone to walk through this process of development and, in the confrontation with memory and emotion, to reaffirm the existence of what is “real.”
